Washington, DC – DC Access, Washington, DC’s only wireless Internet service provider (WISP), today announced it has launched a free Wi-Fi hot spot at the H Street Playhouse, 1365 H Street, NE.

With DC Access providing its high-speed wireless Internet service, H Street Playhouse’s patrons can now access the Internet for free with a laptop or hand-held device. “We saw a need to provide broadband access to our audiences. For mobile theatergoers, who need to stay connected, the H Street Playhouse is a neighborhood venue where people can check mail or browse the web while waiting for the show to start,” said Bruce Robey of H Street Playhouse.

In 2003, DC Access became the first ISP in Washington to offer wireless Internet directly to residential and small business customers. In early 2004, DC Access was selected to provide Internet access for the Open Park project, DC’s first outdoor public Wi-Fi hot spot around the Supreme Court.

“As a local business and with many of our customers residing here, DC Access has very strong ties to Capitol Hill. We believe hot spots are important to the community as they keep residents local and promote relationship building with their neighbors,” said Matt Wade, president of DC Access. “Hot spots are a great way for independent coffee shops to stay competitive against the larger, chain coffee shops. DC Access hopes to add more locations in the near future.”

DC Access also has a hot spot at World Cuisine, which is located at 523 8th Street S.E. Area restaurants and coffee shops now can provide broadband access to their patrons. DC Access allows owners of these venues to create their own fee schedules or not charge at all.
