DC Access first to bring wireless internet to Capitol Hill and offers a Cost-Effective, Fast and Reliable Alternative to DSL for Residents and Small Businesses; Capitol Hill Becomes First WiFi-Ready Neighborhood in Washington
Washington, DC – DC Access, a leading Washington, DC-based ISP today announced the general availability of its new Wireless Internet offering for residential and small business customers on Capitol Hill.
Until today, residents and businesses located on Capitol Hill had only two choices for Internet access: dial-up and DSL (Cable is not available in that area.). While DSL offers much faster connections than dial-up, its customers face new risks/challenges, including slow response time from customer service and technical support staff. In addition, outages are common as residential DSL uses the public telephone infrastructure, which is almost 100 years old in the District.
DC Access’ new high-speed Internet offering leverages WiFi, short for wireless fidelity, which eliminates the “last mile” connection problems usually associated with landline services. Known as “outdoor WiFi,” DC Access uses high-powered antennas to broadcast wireless Internet connections directly to customers’ homes and businesses.
Customers receive the benefits of high-speed broadband without having to order a physical connection from a large telecommunications provider. With speeds up to 800kbps, DC Access’ WiFi offering is 16 times faster than dial-up and more than double that of residential DSL. DC Access tested the service for over a year and already has over 10 customers.
Cheryl Corson from Cheryl Corson Design says, “DC Access wireless Internet is consistently fast and reliable. It’s a great example of thinking globally and acting locally. I rely on the Internet to conduct my own business and I couldn’t be happier with the service.”
Jane Osborne from Change By Choice who switched from DSL to DC Access’ wireless Internet can’t believe the change: “My reception is great and speedy!!! Better than DSL by a mile! I’m very happy.”
“Capitol Hill residents and small business owners who don’t have access to broadband, or are unhappy with the speed of dial-up access or level of customer service they’re receiving, now have an option for immediate broadband Internet access,” said Matt Wade, founder and president of DC Access. “In addition to receiving the fastest and most reliable Internet connection in the area at an extremely affordable price, DC Access promises customers unmatched, personal customer service.”
Availability and Pricing
DC Access’ Wireless Internet is available immediately to residents and businesses on Capitol Hill. The service starts at $35 per month and includes unlimited Internet access, a free on-site visit by a field technician, an email account and personal web space. DC Access is currently looking at other neighborhoods in the District to roll out the service over the next year.
